Last Friday night, I accidentally saw a Filipino movie on EBS (a free Korean channel). It was a movie that my eldest sister recommended a few years ago – ATAUL FOR RENT (Casket for Hire). The Indie film has a powerhouse cast, led by Joel Torre and Jaclyn Jose, two of the best actors of Philippine cinema. Also in the cast are Pen Medina, Coco Martin (who is superb in his new drama “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin”) and Ronnie Lozaro.
Joel Torre plays the role of Guido, a funeral home owner and an embalmer. I wonder what the qualifications of an embalmer are. Do they have to at least go to a medical assistant school?
Despite being shown at 12:05 AM on Friday night, I was able to finish it. I was just glad to see a movie from my country and hear our language spoken on a Korean channel. “Ataul for Rent” kept me awake for two hours. If you want to know more about it, you can visit it’s IMDB page.
If you want to catch more foreign language films, try to tune in to EBS on Friday night at 12:05 AM (Saturday really). They will show the film “Still Life” (China) on March 18 and the Indian film “Thanks Maa” on March 25. Too bad that I missed “El Bano de Papa” last week.
wow… mukhang interesting to. Tagal ko na rin di nakakapanood ng filipino movies… especially indie films.
