PiFan 2008

Today, July 18 is the opening of the 12th Pucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in Pucheon (also Bucheon) in Gyeonggi province (Gyeonggi-do). Unlike other festivals, PiFan specializes in showing horror, sci-fi and thriller films. I’ve been checking out their site for the list of films that will be shown in various theatres in the city. There are quite a lot of interesting movies listed but the screening schedule is quite inconvenient. Bucheon is about an hour’s subway ride from Seoul.
There are two Filipino films that will be screened: Resiklo (Recycle) by Mark Reyes and Ataul for Rent (Casket for Rent) by Neal Tan and starring one of my favorite Filipino actors, Joel Torre.
Casket for Rent will be screened on July 23 at 2PM. My eldest sister highly recommends this movie. I’d really love to see this film but I don’t have a chance. I’ll just buy the DVD later. Anyway, if you’re interested to know what other films will be screened, better visit PiFan 2008’s website.
Here’s a preview of Casket for Rent from Youtube:

  1. Ahhhh, this is so cool: a movie festival for horror movies! We have many here, but I never went to them for the same reason: inconvenient movie times.
