There was a big buzz over Yam Laranas’ Hollywood remake of his own film (Sigaw) last year. People were also excited to see Iza Calzado reprise her role in the same movie. The trailer of the movie, The Echo, has been out since the middle of 2008. Unfortunately, no playdate has been announced and fans are still waiting when it’s finally going to be shown.
Anyway, there is a movie starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Michelle Williams that also features an unknown Filipina actress – Marife Necesito. The movie is written and directed by the acclaimed Swedish director Lukas Moodysson and produced by the same production company, Memfis Films, that made the “depressing” (IMO) movie “Dancer in the Dark”.
The plot of the movie as written on IMDB goes:

Leo and Ellen are a successful New York couple, totally immersed in their work. Leo is the creator of a booming website, and has stumbled into a world of money and big decisions. Ellen is a dedicated emergency surgeon who devotes her long shifts to saving lives. Their 8-year old daughter Jackie spends most of her time with her Filipino nanny Gloria, a situation that is making Ellen start to question her priorities. When Leo travels to Thailand on business, he unwittingly sets off a chain of events that will have dramatic consequences for everyone.

The film will open in Sweden on January 23rd and will be in competition at the Berlin Film Festival. I’ve seen the trailer and it looks interesting. Reading the plot summary made me even more curious.

Marife is one lucky Filipina! I would’ve fainted if I were in the same room as Gael Garcia Bernal!
