I don’t really enjoy posting negative events on my blog, but I feel that awareness is important. There are some news that don’t get posted on English-language Korean news portal sites, so I try to follow Korean news through Facebook.
South Korea is a relatively safe country ~ but we do have our share of crimes. Recently, there has been a spate of unprovoked assaults reported on the news. Last month, an elderly was killed while he was resting on a rock in mountain. Last week, a drunk man in Busan assaulted a middle-aged female and two others without any reason.
On May 2 in Daejeon at around 2am, an elevator assault is recorded by an apartment CCTV. A woman in her 20s is seen standing in one corner of the elevator. She looks at her smartphone while the teenage boy wearing a hooded windbreaker jacket takes out a rock bigger than his hand from his pouch. He hits the woman on her head. Luckily, she is able to fight back and escape when the elevator door opened. She is now recovering at the hospital.
What is the reason for the attack? No reason at all. The woman did not provoke the boy at any way. This reminds us to always be aware of our surroundings.
