Mad for Garlic in Uijeongbu

I traveled north to Uijeongbu this cold Friday morning to meet some “northern” friends and celebrate a birthday. Mad for Garlic is an Italian chain restaurant that opened in 2001 and has over 35 branches in the country. The one we went to is located on the 9th floor of Shinsegae, just a few steps from Uijeongbu station on line 1.
On my way to Uijeongbu, I checked the menu on Mad for Garlic’s webpage and I saw that they’re having a members-only promotion from November 28 to December 4th. Luckily, even if we just registered after ordering the restaurant honored the promo and we were able to get the discount.
We ordered four items from the menu, including the two items included in the promo ~
Winter garden steak retails for 42,800 but is discounted to 15,000 won. The steak was cooked medium rare and it was tender and not too salty. I enjoyed the “garden” ~ especially the purple radish.

The 140 Meatball Pizza retails at 23,800 but we were only charged 10,000 won for it. It’s a thin crust pizza with very little cheese, meatballs and a “salad” on top with slices of sweet potato. If you like the traditional cheesy and saucy pizza then this may not be for you. Good thing that my companions are never afraid to try something different.

This super garlicky and creamy Garlic Carbonara has loads of bacon strips ~ and is very filling! Priced at 19,800 won.

Mad for Garlic Cobb salad is 16,800 won and has a light tangy dressing. The waitress mixed the salad on our table so every bit is coated with the sherry wine vinegar dressing.

Our total? Only 61,100 won for all four items and we were full!
We couldn’t order wine since we had to go to work afterwards. No desserts either, but we had coffee at Starbucks. The steak was delicious and it is a great deal for just 15,000 won during the promo.

  1. That’s a great deal. I’m always looking for restaurants that serve wine in Korea. Pretty sure there is a Mad for Garlic in my city so maybe I’ll check it out!

  2. I actually recently went to Mad for Garlic in Daegu and I am a big fan!! It was so tasty and we also used a coupon so we didn’t feel too bad for the splurging meal, wine and all! I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the dessert pizza with garlic was phenomenal!

  3. I can’t believe I missed the discount days 🙁 The food looks amazing. I will definitely check it out! For some reason, I thought it would be super garlicy but that pizza looks divine!

  4. This definitely looks like Korean-Italian fusion 😛 But super cheap! I can’t believe that steak went down from 42,000 won to 15,000! That’s insane! Glad you had a great time!

  5. We ate at the Mad for Garlic in Busan for my friend’s bachelorette. It was very good food and the atmosphere was perfect. They gave us a private room with floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the city!

  6. I just went to the same restaurant in Daegu…how funny! My friends and I also indulged in some discounted dishes. I was impressed with the quality of the Italian-style food in Korea. They know what they’re doing!

  7. Wow these are such incredible deals! I wonder if it’s at all the Mad for Garlic locations. There’s one near me in Jamsil and I would love to check it out. I love a proper steak and miss it tons living in Korea – land of the bbq!

  8. What a pleasant surprise to see your steak dish picture looking very similar to the dish in their own advertisement. And only a mere 15,000krw, I’ll take 2 please!

  9. I love Mad for Garlic! I used to go there while I was in Seoul. I never got to experience those discounted prices while I ate in Seoul, though, haha. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  10. I’m a big fan of this restaurant chain. They actually have a huge promotion on the last Wednesday of every month which they call “MAD DAY.” Just download their smartphone app and you’ll get a notice for which items are discounted. It’s usually different every month.
