I read about John Lapus’ experience at the Pusan International Film Festival. He came for the hit movie “Here Comes The Bride” together with Eugene Domingo. Too bad that Angelica Panganiban didn’t come.
“Here Comes the Bride” is one of the few movies that really made me roll with laughter. I had seen it twice and the first time was in the subway. It was a big mistake since I had a hard time stifling my laughter. The second time was with friends at Wendy’s house. We too had a great time watching it. I promise to buy the original DVD to add to my small collection.
So how was the reception for the movie in Korea? Positively positive. One blogger wrote that “ì •ë§ ì›ƒê¸´ ì˜í™”다” (It’s a really funny movie) and “너무 ìœ ì¾Œí•˜ê³ ì‹ ë‚¬ë–¤ ì˜í™” ã…Žã…Ž” (It’s a very pleasant and exciting movie). There are even tweets asking if the movie is going to be shown in regular cinemas in Korea.
Another blogger said “ì˜¬í•´ì˜ ê°€ìž¥ 개성 있는 웨딩 코미디” (This year’s most unique wedding comedy.) The Korean title of the movie is “ë‚´ ì‹ ë¶€ 찾아줘요” or “Please Find My Bride”.
Here are some pictures of John Lapus and Eugene Domingo, along with Director Chris Martinez at one of the screenings of the movie. I noticed that they are not wearing name badges.

maraming magandang aktres na pwedeng komedyante bakit sina pokwang, ay ay delas alas o eugene pa. ok din comic sina shaina, maya o regine. masakit naman sa amin komo ba kulang sa ganda nakakatawa na! pleeeease
@abergal:
“maraming magandang aktres na pwedeng komedyante bakit sina pokwang, ay ay delas alas o eugene pa.”
– why not? why does comedy have to be the scene of the pretty actresses, and not for the not-so-pretty ones?
“ok din comic sina shaina, maya o regine.”
– I haven’t seen shaina do comedy. I can’t comment on her talents. (who is maya?) regine has a talent in comedy. i give her that.
– now the problem with most (not all) pretty actresses is that they’re too preoccupied with pagpapa-cute that they can’t give their all to be silly. kaya mahirap maghanap ng ganda-gandahang aktres na kayang magpatawa.
– anyway, if the pretty actresses can whip out a good comedy, why not? problem is, they don’t go funny all the way like Ai-Ai- and Uge. I can only recall one pretty young actress who has the potential and same level of chutzpah – Sheena Halili – she killed in Kim Sam Soon.
“masakit naman sa amin komo ba kulang sa ganda nakakatawa na! pleeeease”
– If you happen to meet Ai-Ai Delas Alas, Pokwang, or Eugene Domingo, please don’t tell them this, ha? It’s an outright insult to their talent. Humor neither requires prettiness nor lack thereof. Hindi natatawa ang mga tao sa kanila dahil hindi sila sing-ganda nina Shaina, or Maya (whoever she is), or Regine. Nakakatawa sila dahil witty sila at may comedic timing sila. They can deliver hilarious lines even in an inane conversation and point out the odd and the funny in every situation. Sa salita lang nila, gugulong ka na sa katatawa. Try asking Regine or Shaina to do a stand-up comedy and let’s see if they survive it without being fed lines by others. Eugene Domingo and Ai-Ai Delas Alas are so different from the comediennes of old na binabatuk-batukan at nilalait-lait para magmukhang katawa-tawa. In the case of Ai-Ai Delas Alas and Eugene Domingo (I do not have the same level of regard for Pokwang’s talent, sorry), it’s not the physical appearance that’s really funny – it’s the mind. Comedy is not about the face, but the talent. Please, have more respect for our comediennes.
typo error its maja. term comedienne is politically incorrect. they have talent yes but they’re butt ugly! its not an insult but the truth.
🙂 right. and “butt ugly” is politically correct.
by the way, this is very good news. it shows that Pinoys can also make movies that are not about poverty, crime, or prostitution (which are typical themes of Pinoys’ entries to the likes of Cannes Film fest) that can appeal to the international audience. thanks for sharing, ms. betchay! 🙂
yeah, we had a great laugh that night! galing ng casting. hubby and MIL watched the film the day after we watched it… with matching closed curtain and popcorn.. feling nasa movie theatre kami.lol.
read about Sweet’s experience at Pusan on PEP. i felt happy and proud reading it. i was also amused when he learned that in korea korean gay and gay roles alike aren’t common in their showbiz industry. i told my students about filipino movies joining this year at Pusan festival and recommended that they give our products a try. i guarantee that they will appreciate them.
I watched it too along with my friends and we really had a good laugh. I praised it because it was different from the past comedies.. mejo nagiging corny na kasi.. Kakaiba yung concept and I’m glad that some Koreans also loved the film..
Katuwa sila sweet(john lapus) and eugene pag pinagsama
The trailer was good but didn’t get the chance to watch it. It’s nice that some Koreans enjoyed it.
Wow, too cool! 🙂 I’ve been reading articles on the Pusan Int’l. Film Festival and didn’t know there’s a Filipino entry. Wow!
yes. good news ito. mabuti at kahit papano eh meron tayong positive feedback from other people..
