As of March 2, the number of cumulative positive cases for COVID19 in South Korea is 90,372. Of this number, 83,284 are locally transmitted and 7,088 are imported cases. 1,606 deaths have been recorded while there are still 7,428 in isolation.
There are 3,966 registered foreigners in Dongducheon, a city located north of Seoul. On March 2, it has been reported that of the 88 confirmed cases for two days, 84 are foreigners and 4 are Koreans. Most of the confirmed cases are asymptomatic. Their residence is Dongducheon, but their places of work vary.
Last month, the city of Dongducheon sent letters to churches and communities with foreign membership recommending them to get tested. The city hall is sending English-speaking civil servants to conduct epidemiological investigations.
I couldn’t find data on how many of the 90,372 cases in South Korea are foreigners – there is only data of those coming from abroad. The number of infected foreigners is miniscule. However, many are here to work and contracting COVID19 is a hassle since one may need to isolate for weeks thus affecting income.
