Kyochon Chicken

IMO, Korea makes the best fried chicken! When I first came here, I fell in love with BBQ ~ a Korean fried chicken brand. Over the years, I’ve tried different Korean fried chicken brands and my favorite of all is Kyochon Chicken. I like Kyochon Chicken so much that I know I could eat a box in one sitting.
Kyochon Chicken began operating in 1991 and as of October 31, 2013 there are already 934 branches in and out of the country. They have been a consistent annual recipient of the “Korea Brand of the Year” award since 2003. From South Korea, the company has branched out internationally with its first store opening in the USA in 2007. It has opened branches in China, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Last year, the Wilson Chua Group of Companies brought the franchise to open stores in the Philippines. It plans to have 25 outlets in 3 years.
The first Kyochon Chicken outlet in the Philippines opened last month at SM Megamall. Unlike in South Korea where Kyochon is only available by delivery, the Philippine store is a fast-food restaurant where customers can order and have their meals at the store.

Kyochon Chicken used to be endorsed by the group Super Junior, but they have recently changed their endorser to Lee Min Ho. I really don’t care who endorses the brand, since it’s the chicken that I really care about 😀

What do I order from Kyochon? My favorite is the honey combo ~ only wings and drumsticks. A box costs 17,000 won in South Korea and it comes with a can of cola and pickled radish. Honey original is only 15,000 won but it has chicken breasts. Honey combo tastes a little sweet and for me it goes perfectly well with a bottle of beer ~ we call it “치맥” or “chimek” in Korean which means “chicken and beer”.

Before I met “honey combo”, my favorite was Kyochon combo. The taste is a combination of garlic and soy sauce and absolutely finger-lickin’ good. I haven’t tried Kyochon Red (spicy) and Kyochon Rice (with rice coating). Hmm… I feel like ordering a box now!

UPDATE: We ordered a box of Kyochon honey combo on May 4th and surprise! It’s Lee Min Ho holding a plate of chicken 😀

  1. We love Kyochon, too! Whenever my friends and I go to Seoul, we never miss eating/ordering this! The branch in Hongdae is like a semi-bar, semi-resto where you can have 치맥 😉 I super love the honey, garlic and soy sauce chix here! My friend loves the spicy one. I dunno how she can take the spice, kase super anghang talaga! Now I’m craving for this after reading your post!

  2. When we went to Seoul last 2012, we had a hard time finding Kyochon. So we asked the receptionist of the guesthouse where we stayed to look for a Kyochon branch nearest Chungmuro. She directed us to Kyochon in Hyewa. We ordered the soy garlic flavored chicken and to our surprise koreans don’t eat chicken with rice! But the guy from Kyochon was kind enough to buy us a bowl of rice from the restaurant right across Kyochon. There were two teenagers who are also in the restaurant and we are just amazed on how they were able to finish an entire order of chicken, which i guess an order of it is about a kilo. And we can see on their faces how they enjoyed eating kyochon, hehe. Last year when I went back to korea i tried Two Two Chicken in Myeongdong but Kyochon is still the best korean chicken for me. Better than BonChon. Glad that there is already Kyochon in megamall, I’ll try to visit the place one of these days so that i’ll get to taste it again. 🙂
